Area Project Manager - Infrastructure & Services

Job Description

We have a current opportunity for a Area Project Manager - Infrastructure & Services as a 12 month fixed term contract. The position will be based in Johannesburg with travel to the DRC as required.

Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:

The Area Project Manager is responsible for the overall management and execution of the Mines' smelter project infrastructure which includes, bulk power reticulation, water (supply, storage and control), earthworks, roads, drainage, utilities, services, oxygen plant, steam reticulation co-generation plant and all service buildings inside the smelter complex.

Duties include; leadership, coordination, implementation, execution and control from project development to completion and commissioning and handover. From time to time, the successful candidate will also play the role of Project Engineer responsible for coordination, standards and plot plan for the overall smelter project

1. Management

  • Overall responsibility for Project scope, quality, budget and schedule from concept development to commissioning and handover.
  • Manage procurement process
  • Manage all appointed consultants and contractors

2. Design Reviews

  • Specialist review of designs and technical specifications of the project area scope


  • Minimum of a Degree/Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Civil) - Ideally a Bsc or BEng degree
  • 10-15 Years' experience with general infrastructure in the mining and processing environment
  • A minimum of 5-10 years project management experience (Project Management Diploma or PMP qualification would be beneficial)
  • Ideally Professionally registered engineer (Pr Eng) and Project Managent Professional (PMP)
