An exciting opportunity for a Project Developer to join a successful Renewable Energy Developer, that specialises in the Solar Energy sector. This role will be responsible for the end-to-end project cycle, including securing new project opportunities, establishing the project structure, bringing the projects to financial close and the start of construction.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Engineering, or other related field
  • More than 7 years Project Management/Development experience
  • More than 3 years in the Renewable environment
  • Experience working on REIPPP projects (ideally solar)
  • Working knowledge of Power Purchase Agreements, grid connections, permitting requirements, bidding process and projects financial modelling
  • Experience working in the developing world
  • Experience successfully developing relationships with various stakeholders
  • Ability to build trust across different cultures & disciplines
  • Ability to work under pressure and take initiative
  • Fluent in English - written and spoken
  • Must be willing to travel

Scope of Work:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the region’s power markets and opportunities
  • Develop relationships with authorities, regulators and utilities
  • Identify and nurture relationships with local/regional developers, brokers, banks, contractors, etc.
  • Identify, screen and evaluate new business and project opportunities including:
  • Negotiate with prospective partners and establish project development or acquisition agreements
  • Support the process of Project Finance preparation for the projects
  • Support the process of Execution preparation for the projects
  • Secure project land, substation land, servitudes, etc.
  • Conduct topo/geo/hydro studies and yield analysis
  • Secure relevant Permits, Licenses and authorizations (PLAs)
  • Conduct ESIA and develop ESAP
  • Assess local community needs (e.g. on education, health)
  • Develop project initiatives to support local communities
  • Obtain PPA and/or other offtake arrangements
  • Obtain sovereign guarantees (if applicable)
  • Establish SPV and legal project setup
  • Assess grid code requirements
  • Identify Point of Connection (PoC) and conduct grid studies
  • Assess land needs
  • Obtain network connection agreement
  • Estimate and optimize business case (incl. insurance)
  • Secure project equity and debt finance
  • Optimize project tax structure
  • Assess group treasury implications
  • Ensure project development cost control
  • Establish project governance mechanisms
  • Conduct local partner background checks
  • Set up local offices & bank accounts
  • Recruit local resources
  • Develop business case
  • Run technical, legal & financial due-diligence
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to common goal
  • Develop Business Developers and Interns to expected level of competency and autonomy
  • Recruitment of Business Development personnel
