Job description

A reputable and stable South African engineering contractor is looking for an experienced Site Agent with experience managing civil engineering and building projects, to work in the Western Cape (mostly within Cape Town).

Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric certificate
  • National Diploma in Building/Engineering
  • 10+ years experience as a site agent
  • Experience must include both buildings and civil works
  • Able to run a site independently
  • Knowledge of GCC or COLTO will be ideal
  • Driver's License
  • Excellent customer relations skills

Scope of work:

  • Using scheduling software to develop contract and works programmes, manage progress, mitigate delays and pursue contractual entitlement
  • Deliver adequate planning and leadership to ensure delays, productivity losses, wastage, frustration, material shortfalls etc. are eliminated
  • Ensure break-even production targets are calculated and pursued for every operation
  • Utilisation of an allowable BOQ in order to ensure material, labour and subcontractor costs do not exceed the tendered estimate
  • Maximise the company’s entitlement in the monthly payment certificates whilst ensuring sufficient supporting evidence is available for the quantities claimed
  • Monitor and manage material wastage and over-use
  • Awareness and protection of our contractual rights through the application of the contract and the Claims / Variation Order procedures 
  • Monitor and manage material wastage and over-use 
  • Procedural correctness in appointing, managing, paying and administering sub-contractors and suppliers 
  • Manage the day to day running of the business inclusive of training and development of staff
  • Ensure high standards of OHS for both internal and external stakeholders 
  • Health and safety compliance in terms of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Construction Regulations 
  • Representing site company at formal site meetings and site inspections 
  • Site programming and planning 
  • Building client relationships 
  • Develop & implement long term strategic objectives  
  • Procurement of work 
  • Ensuring compliance with projects CPG targets 
  • Overall accountability for the profitability of the business 
  • Management of plant and equipment
  • Identifying obstructions to performance and implementing mitigating measures  


  • Offering a market related salary dependent on experience
