SHEQ Compliance Officer

Job Description

Our client, a Solar EPC company, based in Cape Town, has a current opportunity for a SHEQ Compliance Officer on a permanent basis. The position will be based in Stellenbosch.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities contemplated are set out as follows. These will be kept under review and will be amended as the Company's approach to SHEQ management develops.

* To develop and maintain an up-to-date Legal Register setting out all relevant SHEQ national and local legislation and relevant guidance/best practice in all countries/locations where the Company has operations.

* To develop and maintain an up-to-date SHEQ Risks Register which identifies all aspects of the Company's activities which may give rise to direct and indirect environmental, health, safety and wellbeing and social effects, identifying those posing greatest risk.

* To develop the SHEQ Plan which will set out the SHEQ targets and objectives of the business and the means of delivering, monitoring and reporting.

* Perform specific actions to prevent or mitigate SHEQ risks as defined in the Risks Register.

* To ensure that all SHEQ procedures and requirements are in place as appropriate for the Company's business and activities.

* To ensure the effectiveness of the Company's Emergency Response Plan, including the development and implementation of site/project ERPs.

* To monitor the effective implementation of SHEQ procedures and implement corrective action where necessary.

* To collect and collate SHEQ KPI information (addressing performance in meeting targets and objectives, and including corrective action follow up) and to develop a reporting "dashboard" for regular presentation the Management Team.

* To monitor EHSS performance across the Company as evidenced by the dashboard and investigate any occurrences or trends of non-compliance/poor performance.

* To support the Company's other functions by developing the Company's SHEQ performance expectations whilst engaging with stakeholders and ensure best practice implementation.

* To design and implement an audit schedule of Company processes, activities and worksites and of contractor and sub-contractor worksites and premises to ensure targets and objectives are being delivered, procedures are being followed and in the case of contractors/subcontractors, the Company's performance objectives are being met; and to feed audit findings back into the applicable department/unit.

* To motivate for an appropriate annual SHEQ budget to implement the Plan and to manage the budget in order to deliver the targets and objectives.

* To support the Company's Procurement/Purchasing function by developing a supply chain evaluation/due diligence procedures.

* To engage with relevant sector SHEQ networks, in particular on SHEQ supply chain risks, to keep up to date with emerging EHSS legalisation and practice and ensure that the Company's SHEQ Plan reflects most recent thinking, practice and legal requirements.

* To support in training staff with respect to SHEQ requirements and best practices.

Qualifications

* The Compliance Officer shall be qualified to Technical diploma or degree level in an relevant discipline (engineering, business process or environmental science).

* The Compliance Officer shall have a minimum of 3 years' post-graduation experience working in a quality assurance, health and safety and/or environmental performance management discipline.

* The Compliance Officer shall be experienced in business and SHEQ management systems.

* Experience in Solar Industry is beneficial

* Strong IT skills - MSOffice;

* Basic database management;

* Documentation and record keeping skills;

* Technical understanding (can be taught);

* Excellent interpersonal skills;

* Proficiency in the English and Afrikaans languages. Other languages are of advantage;
