Job Role: Quantity Surveyor
Location: Gibraltar

As a Quantity Surveyor your remit will include:
As a Quantity Surveyor in Spain, you will play a vital role in the financial management of construction projects. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
- Preparing tender documents, contracts, and budgets: This involves taking project designs and specifications and translating them into a clear and concise financial plan.
- Quantifying materials and labor costs: You will use your knowledge of construction methods and materials to estimate the exact costs associated with each stage of the project.
- Preparing bills of quantities (BOQs): BOQs are detailed lists of all the materials and labor required for a project, along with their estimated costs
- Reviewing the BOQ:
- Scrutinize Item Descriptions:
- Ensure each item is clearly described with relevant details (material type, size, units).
- Check for inconsistencies or missing information.
- Analyze Quantities:
- Meticu lously examine the quantities listed for each item in the BOQ.
- Consider using software or manual take-offs from drawings to verify the listed amounts (e.g., volume of concrete, area of paint application).
- Unit Prices:
- Assess the reasonableness of the unit prices for materials, labor, and equipment.
- Consider factors like current market rates, project location, and project complexity.
- Calculations and Extensions:
- Double-check all mathematical calculations used to arrive at total costs for each item.
- Pay close attention to extensions (quantity multiplied by unit price).
- Overall Consistency:
- Verify that the BOQ aligns with the project drawings and specifications.
- Look for discrepancies or missing elements.
- Tracking changes to the design and budget: Construction projects are fluid, and designs can change. You will be responsible for monitoring these changes and adjusting the budget accordingly.
- Negotiating contracts with contractors and subcontractors: You will ensure that the project is delivered within budget and to the required quality standards.
- Measuring and valuing completed work: You will regularly visit the construction site to measure the work that has been done and ensure that contractors are paid accurately.
- Preparing reports: You will need to communicate your findings and recommendations to project managers, clients, and other stakeholders.
What you will bring to the company:
- A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field (e.g., construction management)
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a Quantity Surveyor role (depending on the seniority of the position)
- Strong understanding of Spanish construction practices and regulations
- Proficiency in Spanish and English (both written and spoken)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience using quantity surveying software (e.g., S100, CCS)
