Job Purpose:
The WTG Site Manager is responsible for overseeing the installation of wind turbine generators (WTGs) at wind farm sites. This includes managing day-to-day activities on-site, ensuring the project is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all regulatory standards. The WTG Site Manager will work closely with subcontractors, engineers, and other site personnel, coordinating all aspects of the installation process and addressing any challenges that may arise.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Management:
- Lead and manage all activities related to the installation of WTGs on-site.
- Oversee the installation of wind turbine components, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules and ensure all milestones are achieved on time.
- Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials.
- Monitor the construction site daily to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations.
Team Leadership:
- Lead a team of engineers, technicians, and subcontractors.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Ensure site personnel are adequately trained and fully understand the tasks they are responsible for.
- Provide coaching, support, and motivation to team members to achieve high performance.
Project Execution and Quality Control:
- Supervise the quality of work, ensuring adherence to specifications, standards, and contractual obligations.
- Review and approve installation methods, procedures, and work plans.
- Address any issues or delays promptly to minimize impact on the project timeline.
- Ensure all documentation, such as as-built records, installation reports, and safety records, are maintained and submitted in a timely manner.
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):
- Implement and enforce site-specific safety plans and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the company's HSE policy and relevant regulations.
- Conduct site inspections and audits to identify risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Foster a strong safety culture among all personnel and stakeholders.
Reporting and Communication:
- Report regularly to the Project Manager on site progress, delays, risks, and budget adherence.
- Provide updates on any potential issues or risks that could affect project timelines, quality, or costs.
- Liaise with other departments (e.g., procurement, logistics) to ensure the smooth execution of the project.
Problem Solving and Decision Making:
- Take responsibility for resolving any on-site challenges that arise, including technical or personnel issues.
- Make timely and effective decisions to avoid delays and ensure a smooth installation process.
Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure that all installation work complies with UK regulations, industry standards, and contractual obligations.
- Oversee the preparation of all necessary documentation, including permits, reports, and records, to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Essential Requirements:
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in wind turbine installation, construction, or project management within the wind energy industry.
- Proven experience in managing site activities on large-scale wind farm projects.
- Strong knowledge of wind turbine technologies, installation procedures, and associated equipment.
Qualifications:
- A degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- NEBOSH or IOSH Health and Safety qualification.
- WTG-specific training and certification (e.g., Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, GE, Nordex etc.) would be advantageous.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work with diverse teams.
- In-depth understanding of HSE standards and best practices in the wind energy industry.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, etc.) and general office software (e.g., MS Office Suite).

Desirable Requirements:
- Experience with onshore wind farm installation projects.

Working Conditions:
- The role requires flexibility and may involve working on-site for extended hours, weekends, and holidays depending on project needs.
- Travel between different wind farm sites across the UK may be required.
- The role will require both office-based planning and on-site management activities.
