Job Title: NDT Technician – Wind Turbine Blade Data Analyst
Location: Wind Turbine Blade Manufacturing Facility (Factory Environment)
Department: Quality Assurance / Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
Job Description The NDT Technician is responsible for analysing inspection data from non-destructive testing (NDT) processes carried out on wind turbine blades during manufacturing. The role focuses on evaluating inspection results, identifying defects or anomalies within composite structures, and ensuring that blades meet quality and safety standards before leaving the factory.
Working closely with inspection teams, engineers, and quality control personnel, the technician reviews data from advanced NDT methods such as Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT), Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD), and other inspection technologies used in composite blade manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
  • Analyse and interpret NDT inspection data from wind turbine blade components.
  • Review PAUT, UT, and other NDT scan results for structural defects such as:
    • Delamination
    • Voids
    • Debonding
    • Cracks
    • Adhesive failures
  • Evaluate B-scan, C-scan, and A-scan data from ultrasonic inspection systems.
  • Use specialised software (e.g., OmniPC, OmniScan, or similar) to review and analyse scan results.
  • Identify and map defects within blade structures including spar caps, shear webs, leading edge, and trailing edge sections.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports in accordance with company and industry standards.
  • Document inspection findings and classify indications based on acceptance criteria.
  • Communicate results to production, engineering, and quality assurance teams.
  • Support root cause analysis and quality improvement initiatives within the manufacturing process.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, internal procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspection data and reports.
Required Qualifications
  • Certification in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Level 2 or equivalent (e.g., PCN / ISO 9712 / ASNT).
  • Experience with ultrasonic testing methods, particularly Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT).
  • Knowledge of composite materials used in wind turbine blade manufacturing.
  • Experience analysing ultrasonic scan data and interpreting inspection results.
  • Familiarity with NDT inspection software and data analysis tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prepare clear and accurate technical reports.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in wind turbine blade manufacturing or inspection.
  • Experience analysing composite blade structures (spar caps, shear webs, bond lines).
  • Knowledge of automated scanning systems and crawler inspection equipment.
  • Familiarity with industry inspection procedures from turbine manufacturers.
