Industrial Asset Management Engineer – Civil & Structural Assets – Medior

Department Description and Responsibilities
The Precious Metals Refining (PMR) department produces solutions based on base and precious metals. At the Hoboken site, client is investing significantly to respond to changing processes and legislation. The Technology Department supports production departments with technical advice and follows the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and design to realization and start-up. Within this department the asset management discipline is currently being built up further, which means the Engineer will not only apply asset management but will also help to design and implement it for the department.

Project Description
The Industrial Asset Management Engineer will be part of the asset team and will contribute to the set-up, implementation and continuous improvement of the asset management system of the department, applied to civil structures and building assets within an industrial environment in Hoboken. Asset management is the primary discipline of this role; civil and structural engineering is the application domain.
The focus is on tactical asset planning, maintenance strategy and lifecycle management for industrial civil and building assets, and on capturing, structuring and converting operational complaints and opportunities into concrete improvement proposals.
• Project objectives: build and embed a working asset management approach for civil and building assets, increase structural reliability, reduce safety and compliance risks, and create predictable lifecycle costs.
• Scope: asset management system set-up and implementation, tactical asset planning, maintenance strategy, criticality and risk management, lifecycle engineering, degradation and inspection data interpretation, work preparation input and small improvement projects.
• Context: The asset management maturity of the department is still developing, so the Engineer is expected to work pragmatically, learn by doing and shape the process rather than only execute an existing one.
• Key stakeholders: AM engineers, work coordinators, inspectors, contractors, condition-monitoring partners, design departments, production departments and operational teams.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities
Asset Management System – Set-up and Implementation
• Contribute to the design, set-up and roll-out of the asset management system for civil and building assets within the department (processes, asset register, criticality framework, maintenance strategy logic, KPIs and documentation flows).
• Translate asset management principles (ISO 55000 logic, risk-based decision making, lifecycle thinking) into practical, usable working methods for an industrial production site.
• Standardise and structure asset data, asset hierarchies and maintenance concepts so that decisions become repeatable and auditable.
• Help embed the asset management way of working with production, maintenance and engineering stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities
• Set up tactical plans for the structural reliability, safety and lifetime of civil and building assets.
• Create, manage and improve multi-year maintenance plans for civil structures and building assets.
• Capture, structure and analyse complaints, asset issues and operational opportunities from the production environment.
• Translate identified risks and opportunities into concrete maintenance strategies, improvement actions and project proposals.
• Define and follow up relevant performance indicators for civil and structural asset management.

Continuous Improvement and Risk Analysis
• Investigate degradation, deficiencies and incidents to control and reduce structural risks.
• Perform root cause analyses for structural deficiencies and recurring technical issues.
• Interpret inspection and RBI data, including trends, degradation curves and remaining-life assessments.
• Formulate mitigation and preventive measures and translate them into maintenance strategies.
• Use criticality and risk-analysis methods to prioritize asset interventions and lifecycle measures.

Work Preparation
• Work preparation tasks are an explicit part of this assignment: prepare interventions to an execution-ready level (scope, technical description, required documents, permits and safety conditions, materials and contractor input, planning constraints).
• Prepare and hand over work packages to the work coordinator and follow up on execution feedback to improve maintenance plans and strategies.
• Ensure the balance between engineering and work preparation is managed in dialogue with the asset team; the role is not a pure work coordinator function.

Small Improvement Projects
• Convert defined measures into practical civil and structural improvement actions.
• Define scope, risks, planning and budget for small-scale civil and building interventions.
• Coordinate and guide contractors and condition-monitoring partners during engineering and execution phases.
• Provide technical direction, quality control and documentation follow-up for assigned interventions.
• Prepare project-scope documents and CAPEX/OPEX proposals where required.

Asset Design and Lifecycle Engineering
• Ensure civil and building assets are designed to be inspectable, maintainable and reliable from the design phase onward.
• Advise design departments on parameters with lifecycle impact for structural assets.
• Validate designs and as-built documentation against structural, reliability and maintainability criteria.
• Prepare and support technical acceptance criteria, validation checklists and handover conditions.
• Ensure the Engineer creates clear plans and technical input that can activate the work coordinator for preparation and execution.

Stakeholder and Compliance Management
• Align with relevant internal and external stakeholders to clarify requirements, risks and execution constraints.
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations, including ISO 55000, SEVESO and Eurocode requirements where applicable.
• Safeguard correct use and quality of asset data in EAM and DMS systems.
• Maintain asset files, inspection history and maintenance plans in line with internal procedures.
• Produce deliverables such as criticality and risk analyses, validation checklists, inspection reports, RCA reports, technical measures lists and project-scope documents.

Technical Profile Requirements
Mandatory Requirements
• Minimum 1 year of demonstrable experience in industrial asset management (tactical asset planning, maintenance strategy, criticality/risk-based decision making or lifecycle management).
• Master's degree in engineering. Construction Engineering or Civil Engineering is a plus, but engineers from another discipline are welcome, provided they have grown towards asset management & have knowledge of civil/construction engineering
• Demonstrable affinity with construction/civil engineering ("bouwkunde")
• Knowledge & Working experience with ISO 55000, SEVESO and Eurocode is required.
• Willingness to take ownership of the asset management scope; the technical civil/structural depth can be built up further on the job with support from the asset team.
• Ability to perform data analysis and translate technical findings into practical maintenance strategies and improvement proposals.
• Working knowledge of at least a number of the following methodologies, with the motivation to master the others: RBI data interpretation, RCA, criticality analysis, risk analysis, degradation analysis and remaining-life assessment.
• Experience coordinating projects and managing external parties such as contractors or inspection partners.

Preferred Requirements
• Experience in an organisation with a mature industrial asset management system.
• Experience with actually implementing or rolling out an asset management process or system, not only working within an existing one.
• High-potential medior engineer: growth potential, learning agility, curiosity and genuine motivation to specialise in asset management are decisive selection criteria for this role.
• Experience with EAM systems, DMS platforms, inspection databases, spreadsheets for degradation models or predictive analysis tools.
• Experience in industrial structures, corrosion issues, wall cracks, room renovation or smaller civil interventions.
• Experience with work preparation in an industrial maintenance or turnaround environment.
• VCA is not required, but awareness of safety requirements in industrial environments is useful.

Location
• Work location: Hoboken, Belgium.
• Remote working possibilities: The role requires full-time onsite presence in Hoboken. Occasional homeworking may be permitted, subject to prior alignment and approval from the manager.

Start Date and Selection Process
• Target start: as soon as possible; a start early January is negotiable. Finding the right profile takes priority over speed.
• Suppliers are expected to speak to the candidate themselves before submission and to verify the asset management experience and language level. Submissions without a clear asset management motivation and storyline will be rejected.
