Authorised Person

The role will oversee and coordinate the commissioning of the HVDC system (inc 400kV) for both onshore and offshore works. The role will oversee the technical requirements and installation of the HVDC systems at Necton substation, and will interface with the HV commissioning team at the dry docks in Dubai and the offshore commissioning team, to ensure that there is an aligned process and progress of the HVDC commissioning. There may be limited travel to Dubai and offshore to engage with the commissioning team. The expectation of the role is that they are based on site at the substation. The role will also include overseeing the Stage 2 commissioning of the 400kV bays. The role will work closely with the construction teams (Contractor and Employer) and the commissioning HV Safety teams to provide a “readiness to energise” review for the systems. They will ensure that tests have been completed and issues are raised and managed. So a strong technical background is important to understand the potential issues with the equipment installed. The role will need to keep records of tests and respond to technical questions from the HV Safety Team. They will also ensure that the commissioning files for the systems are updated. Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Act as the appointed MWS for offshore and marine operations, including load-outs, transportation, lifting, and installation activities.</li><li>Review and approve marine procedures, method statements, and engineering calculations for compliance with SOMWS and project requirements.</li><li>Conduct on-site and vessel inspections to verify readiness and adherence to approved procedures.</li><li>Provide technical assurance and risk assessment for marine operations, ensuring safety and integrity.</li><li>Liaise with clients, contractors, and third-party stakeholders to resolve technical queries and ensure smooth execution.</li><li>Maintain accurate documentation and issue certificates of approval for marine activities.</li><li>Monitor compliance with international standards (IMO, SOLAS, OCIMF) and project-specific guidelines.</li></ul>Qualifications & Experience<ul><li>SOMWS accreditation.</li><li>Minimum 3 years of experience in marine warranty surveying within offshore oil & gas, renewables, or heavy-lift projects.</li><li>Strong knowledge of marine operations, DP vessels, heavy-lift equipment, and offshore installation techniques.</li><li>Familiarity with international codes and standards (DNV, ABS, ISO).</li><li>Excellent communication and report-writing skills.</li></ul>Preferred Skills<ul><li>Experience with offshore wind or subsea projects.</li><li>Ability to work in dynamic environments and travel offshore as required.</li><li>Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.</li></ul>Certifications<ul><li>SOMWS accreditation.</li><li>Offshore survival and medical certificates (e.g., BOSIET, HUET, GWO).</li></ul>
