ROV Pilot/Technician - Offshore Cable Operations

Position Summary
We are seeking experienced ROV Pilots and Technicians to join our offshore operations teams. You will operate and maintain work-class ROV systems deployed from cable ships for subsea cable burial, post-lay trenching, inspection, and repair operations. This role requires technical expertise, precision, and the ability to work effectively in demanding offshore environments.

Key Responsibilities

• ROV Operations: Pilot work-class ROV systems (including burial tools and trenching equipment) for cable installation and inspection operations
• Cable Operations Support: Execute cable crossings, post-lay inspections, fault location, and repair procedures in various water depths
• Navigation & Positioning: Operate sonar systems, USBL, and telemetry equipment to maintain precise ROV positioning along cable routes
• Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on ROV systems, TMS, LARS, and associated equipment
• Pre/Post-Dive Checks: Conduct comprehensive system checks and maintain detailed operational logs and dive reports
• Subsea Survey Operations: Support survey activities including route clearance, pre-lay surveys, and as-built documentation
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with Cable Engineers, Survey Teams, and Deck Crew to ensure safe and efficient operations
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to company safety management system (SMS), permit-to-work systems, and international offshore safety standards
• Equipment Mobilisation: Participate in ROV system mobilisations, demobilisations, and vessel transfers

Essential Requirements

• Minimum 3-5 years experience as ROV Pilot/Technician with work-class vehicles
• Proven experience with cable burial/plough systems and subsea trenching equipment
• Technical certification: ROV Pilot/Tech Grade 2 minimum (Grade 1 preferred)
• Offshore certifications:
  
  • BOSIET/FOET (recognized offshore safety training)
  • Valid offshore medical certificate (minimum 6 months validity)
• Strong electrical/hydraulic system troubleshooting skills
• Understanding of DP vessel operations and offshore safety protocols
• Fluent English (written and spoken); additional language skills advantageous
• Flexibility to work on rotational basis: typically 28 days on/28 days off (subject to project requirements)

Preferred Qualifications

• High Voltage switching competency
• Experience with various work-class ROV systems from major manufacturers
• Subsea engineering background or relevant degree (mechanical, electrical, marine engineering)
• Previous cable lay experience with telecom or power cable projects
• Sonar operation expertise with industry-standard equipment
• Technical degree or HNC/HND in mechanical/electrical engineering
• Fiber optic cable handling experience
