Subsea Engineer (Offshore Vessel)
Overview
The Subsea Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and control of subsea equipment systems onboard an offshore vessel.
Working within the back deck/subsea department and reporting to the Chief Subsea Engineer, this role supports subsea operations and ensures equipment is maintained in line with operational procedures and manufacturer guidelines. The position also contributes to developing capability to step into senior responsibilities when required.

The Subsea Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and control of subsea equipment systems onboard an offshore vessel.
Working within the back deck/subsea department and reporting to the Chief Subsea Engineer, this role supports subsea operations and ensures equipment is maintained in line with operational procedures and manufacturer guidelines. The position also contributes to developing capability to step into senior responsibilities when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain subsea equipment systems in a safe, efficient, and controlled manner
- Support subsea operations onboard, working closely with the Chief Subsea Engineer
- Ensure all subsea activities are carried out in accordance with safety procedures, risk assessments, and operational standards
- Assist in supervising subsea personnel, including technicians and junior engineers
- Take responsibility for subsea systems during periods of supervision or in the absence of the Chief Subsea Engineer
- Be capable of supporting launch and recovery operations of subsea equipment (e.g. submersibles/ROV systems)
- Contribute to maintenance, repair, and overhaul of subsea equipment to ensure operational readiness
- Monitor system performance and report any operational or technical issues in a timely manner
- Support planning and execution of maintenance and refurbishment activities
- Assist in managing subsea system operations, including allocation of work and team coordination
- Support reporting processes, including operational logs and system reporting
- Maintain awareness of key operational factors such as vessel positioning, weather, currents, and seabed conditions
- Ensure subsea systems remain compliant with operational and safety requirements at all times
- Assist in training and development of junior subsea personnel
- Participate in vessel emergency response and safety procedures
- Assist with inspection and maintenance of onboard safety systems where required
- Support safe working practices and ensure all tasks are conducted with appropriate controls in place
- Undertake additional duties in support of offshore operations as required
Ideal candidates will have:
- Experience in subsea engineering, ROV, or submersible operations offshore
- Background working onboard offshore vessels or subsea projects
- Knowledge of subsea equipment systems, maintenance, and operations
- Experience supervising or supporting technicians or subsea crews
- Strong understanding of offshore safety standards and procedures
- Ability to work in a rotational offshore environment
