Purpose
To ensure that the offshore subsea equipment spread is operated and maintained in an efficient, organised, and controlled manner in accordance with manufacturer operating manuals and project procedures.
Carry out engineering duties within the back deck / subsea department, supporting the subsea team under the direction of the senior subsea lead. Develop technical knowledge and operational awareness to become fully conversant with the senior subsea engineer role.
Operate as part of the vessel crew and work under the overall authority of the Vessel Master in line with vessel command structure.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Subsea Engineer shall:
• Uphold project safety and environmental policies and ensure defects, incidents, near misses, and non-conformances are reported and investigated in line with applicable procedures.
• Ensure that subsea personnel and technicians work in accordance with safe systems of work, including risk assessments and control measures prior to task execution.
• Support supervision and coordination of subsea department personnel, maintaining discipline and compliance with applicable maritime codes of conduct.
• Participate in vessel emergency response duties and drills as per the Muster List.
• Assist with inspection, testing, and basic maintenance of vessel safety systems, including fire detection and alarm systems where required.
• Take responsibility for safe and efficient operation of subsea systems when acting in a supervisory capacity or in the absence of the senior subsea lead.
• Demonstrate full understanding of senior subsea engineer responsibilities, including launch and recovery of subsea assets and operational decision-making offshore.
• Ensure subsea systems are operated within approved operational and insurance limitations.
• Manage subsea systems during maintenance, refurbishment, or standby periods.
• Coordinate subsea team activities including work allocation and watchkeeping in supervisory scenarios.
• Support planning and execution of maintenance, repair, and overhaul of subsea equipment to ensure operational readiness at all times.
• Escalate system downtime or reduced functionality to vessel leadership and onshore management where required.
• Assist with reporting, documentation, and technical returns for subsea systems.
• Maintain awareness of operational factors including vessel manoeuvrability, weather conditions, currents, and seabed characteristics.
• Support training and development of junior technicians and subsea personnel.
• Undertake additional duties within the subsea engineering discipline as required by vessel or project management.
